LA Auto Show

The last day of the Los Angeles Auto Show 2009 draws the curtain on the last show of the year.  What a year 2009 has been!

Lastly, what impressed us most was that the unlikeliest candidates had much to show for.

BMW, Audi Duking It Out.  The surprise on the German front was BMW’s amazing Vision and Audi’s E-Tron both revolutionary considering the company’s stand against electric vehicle, EV a few months ago and the electric drive in general.

Honda showed us its P-Nut which was nice but we wish they would have brought their other two prototypes. Honda P-Nut back, picture Nick Zart Honda P-Nut backside, picture Nick Zart Honda P-Nut frontside, picture Nick Zart Honda P-Nut front, picture Nick Zart Honda P-Nut side, picture Nick Zart

Toyota did not show much but an expected and long in the coming plug-in hybrid, PHEV Prius.  Lexus had its famous/infamous LS 600h hybrid as well as the Prius based concept LF Ch.

Mitsubishi struck us as having the best to offer this year with its remarkably innovative PX-MiEV, Subaru and VW all three had the most appealing concepts, the PX-MiEV, the hybrid Tourer and the Up respectively.

The Startup Put On The PressureFisker Automotive drew most of the attention in a hall filled with Rolls Royce, Lotus and Morgans.  Deservedly so, the Karma attracts the eye and its sister two-door Sunset is equally catching.

The Outright Bizarre.  In the oxymoron department, BMW was toying around with a Mini Crossover.  No comment there…  Sadly missing was Mercedes electric drive and only a few hybrids were there.  Suzuki, which has a great light platform to convert into electric drive had nothing to show in this department.

Best Of Show.  We would have to say Audi with E-Tron and BMW with its stunning Vision.  The Mitsubishi PX-MiEV and the Subaru Tourer.  The Fisker Automotive Sunset is stunning and we lusted over the Capstone Turbine CMT-380.

All in all, it felt as if this year’s show was light on the news front and definitely tried to drum up excitement in some case, where there were none.  It was not as “green” as last year, even though the word “green” popped up everywhere.
