Toyota is continuing its march forward with its hybrid design, introducing a new model and hinting at the much awaited Prius plug-in hybrid, PHEV.
The gist, Toyota is perfectly content reaping the reward of its decade long research and finally profitable h
ybrid vehicle, HEV program. Largely due to the ever increasing success of the Prius, Toyota will announce the Auris HEV at the Frankfort Auto Show.
More HEV’s From Toyota. If we are saddened by the lack of pure electric vehicles, EV form the Nippon company, Toyota will also reveal Lexus’ LF-Ch hybrid concept, as well as its Prius PHEV and the new Auris hybrid concept, which is basically a hybridized Corolla.
The PHEV version is currently undergoing its second generation of testing and modifications after fleet trials. It seems Toyota is serious about stepping up the performance level of the Prius. The PHEV would have an even better fuel consumption capability than the regular Prius. Though little is known technically, the company expects to lease 150 Prius PHEV in European next year.
The hybridized Corolla, would be called Auris and should hit the production line by mid-2010.
While we are happy Toyota is turning a profit on hybrids, we would also welcome more news and concrete plans for the much awaited for all electric vehicles the company has occasionally rumored.
